The Rosary of Saint Bridget

This Chaplet is said in honour of the sixty-three years which, it is said, the most holy Mary lived on earth: it is composed of six divisions, each division consisting- of the Pater once, Ave ten times.  Thus in all the Pater will be said seven times, to mark the number of Seven Dolours and Seven Joys ; and the Ave sixty-three times, to make up the full number of sixty-three years. 

Begin with the Apostles Creed

The First Joy and Sorrow: The Annunciation and the Prophecy of Simeon.  Our Father Once 
in Honor of the First Joy and Sorrow of Mary and Ten Hail Marys in honor of the sixty-three years which, it is said, the most holy mother lived on earth. 

The Second Joy and Sorrow: The Nativity of Jesus and The Flight into Egypt.  Our Father Once in Honor of the First Joy and Sorrow of Mary and Ten Hail Marys in honor of the sixty-three years which, it is said, the most holy mother lived on earth. 

The Third Joy and Sorrow: The Adoration of the Magi and The loss of the child Jesus.  Our Father Once in Honor of the First Joy and Sorrow of Mary and Ten Hail Marys in honor of the sixty-three years which, it is said, the most holy mother lived on earth. 


The Fourth Joy and Sorrow: The Resurrection of Christ and Mary meets Jesus on the way to Calvary.  Our Father Once in Honor of the First Joy and Sorrow of Mary and Ten Hail Marys in honor of the sixty-three years which, it is said, the most holy mother lived on earth. 


The Fifth Joy and Sorrow: The Ascension of Christ to Heaven and Jesus dies on the cross.  Our Father Once in Honor of the First Joy and Sorrow of Mary and Ten Hail Marys in honor of the sixty-three years which, it is said, the most holy mother lived on earth. 


The Sixth Joy and Sorrow: The Pentecost or Descent of the Holy Spirit and Mary receives the body of Jesus in her arms.  Our Father Once in Honor of the First Joy and Sorrow of Mary and Ten Hail Marys in honor of the sixty-three years which, it is said, the most holy mother lived on earth. 


The Seventh Joy and Sorrow: The Coronation of the Virgin in Heaven and The body of Jesus is placed in the tomb.  Our Father Once in Honor of the First Joy and Sorrow of Mary and Ten Hail Marys in honor of the sixty-three years which, it is said, the most holy mother lived on earth. 

Conclude with: One Our Father and Three Hail Marys... 


The Seven Joys of the Blessed Virgin Mary are:


The Annunciation
The Nativity of Jesus
The Adoration of the Magi
The Resurrection of Christ
The Ascension of Christ to Heaven
The Pentecost or Descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and Mary
The Coronation of the Virgin in Heaven 

The Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary are:

The Prophecy of Simeon. (Luke 2:34-35) or the Circumcision of Christ
The Flight into Egypt. (Matthew 2:13)
The loss of the child Jesus in the Temple. (Luke 2:43-45)
Mary meets Jesus on the way to Calvary.
Jesus dies on the cross. (John 19:25)
Mary receives the body of Jesus in her arms. (Matthew 27:57-59)
The body of Jesus is placed in the tomb. (John 19:40-42)
